Retractable Awning; new fabric only or replace it completely?

We have had a retractable awning over our small patio for 6 years.
It has been really useful especially as the summers are getting hotter.
Over time the fabric has worn and become less stable. Today the wind caught it and we have had to remove it from the frame.
I was wondering if anyone has experience of replacing the fabric. Is it easy and does it work well?
Or should I replace the whole thing, mechanism and fabric!
I would really appreciate any responses and recommendations.

Well, I would get quotes for both and take it from there.

if the mechanism has been working fine then I don't see any need to replace it. It generally costs quite a lot to have the units installed, but someone should be able to come and just remove the existing fabric and replace it with new fabric. Depending on how the fabric is fixed to the roller they may need to come once and take the roller away fit the fabric and then return it all. But depending on the mechanism they may be able to do it all in one go once you've chosen the fabric and had the new blind mate had the new length of fabric made up to fit the roller..
