Homemade planters

Have got a pine high riser bed that I have dismantled. I think I could make the pieces into planters or something - is this a silly idea?

Not silly at all. The most characterful gardens are full of repurposed items. My best performing raised beds are made from 2 steel shelving units that the previous owner of my house left behind. Some might tell you the wood will rot, but nothing lasts forever in a garden and you’ll get plenty of joy out of the bed before then.

I make planters, cat sofas, cat plinths to sunbathe on, cat shelters to hide from too much sun on, seed sowing trays; all sorts out of reclaimed wood. They on average if made from solid wood last about 5 years. So if you want longer, give it a sand and some oil to make it last longer.

They are orange pine so definitely want to sand them down. Any tips on how best to repurpose them?

When you’re e made them, line with heavy duty plastic sheet to stop the wood from touching the soil, they will,last longer.
