Copper Beech Tree leaf discolouring

Young Copper Beech tree planted last year
Was looking good but the lower foliage is showing discolouration and several are drying out and dropping off.☹️
Am watering as it is still young although I am aware that over watering can also be bad and didn't want to drown it. Am I being too cautious?
Have photographed a mid-height branch to show foliage in the process of discolouration.

Any ideas please?🤞

It's fine - do keep watering it, and depending on its size, you could spray the leaves with a diluted seaweed solution, half the strength of what's on the pack instructions. If you haven't fed it at all, then a smattering of Growmore pellets or similar around the base will help.

One of mine has discoloured leaves too, but it is in a bonsai pot so growing conditions are different anyway, and I've put it down to leaf scorch on mine.

PS - a thorough soaking of 2-3 watering cans full once a week is better than little and often, and water the surrounding soil as well as at the base of the plant.

Thanks.👍

I do water it well which is why I was worried it could be over watering.🤔
It gets a full (3.5gal) watering can at a time but with us having so little rainfall this Spring/Summer, it is quite possible it just isn't enough.
Will feed again, only did that earlier in the year so will make sure it is done tomorrow.

@Nourishinghandcream It is important to ensure that the surrounding area is also well watered, as not only does that mean the tree has plenty of moist soil to extend new roots into, but it also raises the air humidity around it.
