Acer advice

I bought an Acer this year (trompenburg). I'd like to grow it into a taller tree but keep it in a pot. Any advice on what I should do here? It's grown loads at the top but I'm not sure if I need to chop all but one stem to make it become taller and more traditionally tree shaped? I've posted pics of it as it is and what I'm aiming for. Thanks

It will grow tree shaped naturally - don't chop it. I would wait for it to get bigger and then repot into a bigger pot in Autumn. Once it's filled out you can shape it.

I have a few acers in pots and never pruned them. If you have a patio, put the pot on a roller trolley for easy moving. They hate full blazing sun and wind so put it in a sheltered spot.

It looks like it could do with a bigger pot.

I'm planning on moving it to a bigger pot but have read its best to wait until it's dormant over winter?

I think thats only if you are moving it once its planted in the ground. Bigger pot move will be good now as it will be able to grow into the extra space now.
