Ideas for outdoor potted shrub for privacy

I want to buy some sort of shrub or plant that I could place outside my living room window to provide a bit of privacy whilst not blocking out all the light. I could have a few side by side if needs be. But it would need to be something that can thrive in a pot and grows to around 3-5 feet tall. Does anyone have any ideas? I’m completely new to gardening and completely clueless!

Maybe some bamboo plants?

Do you know if your front garden faces north, south, east or west?

An olive tree might work.

How about a camellia? Spring flowering, easy, evergreen

Bamboo does well in pots (with plenty of watering) and will provide a good screen. Small trees can work but they need more nurturing. Olives are lovely but are not cheap or particularly fast growing.

Stipa Gigantea might be just what you're after.

Voile or net curtains would be instant, cheaper and need far less maintenance.

I don't want those for two reasons: 1. I feel they block out too much light, and 2. my cat would keep trying to climb up them and ruin them. I'm also keen to have some plants in front of my house anyway, to make it look nice, but thought if they serve the dual purpose of screening the bottom half of my window then even better. @Canoodler it faces West, northwest, so not much sun until late afternoon... does that make a big difference?

Thanks everyone for the suggestions, there are some lovely ones there!
