Who cuts theh grass?

Outside our rented property we have a shared small piece of grass that shares with next door who also rent. The grass is half outside their property and half outside mine. When I cut the grass I just cut it all as its pointless just leaving half long and half short as it looks silly. I noticed the neighbours also started doing this so we took in turns a few years .
Now after winter the grass is long again I noticed they had the cut the grass but kept our side long and just did theirs. I have just gone to do my side a few weeks later and I thought il cut it all as its a tiny bit extra, the neighbour came out and said don't do my side leave it. I was like oh OK. Does anyone else think thats really petty ? None of they grass is really theirs or mine its just a patch of grass thats there that needs maintaining.

Are they doing No Mow May?

FolioQuarto · 07/05/2026 14:45

Ask them if they are doing No Mow May. It is very popular around here. People sometimes make little signs, presumably so other people don't simply think they are being lazy.

I share grass with a neighbour. My last neighbour we did every other time but honestly im disabled and I wasn't always well enough to cut it on a specific timescale. With my current neighbour we just cut our own halves which is so much better Im under no pressure or timescale and much prefer it

If they have asked you not to mow their grass, it is sensible to listen. People can get really peculiar about things like that.

They changed their minds and that's okay! You can still offer to cut theirs next time if you're feeling friendly, just don't feel obliged.

(I'm intrigued by the removed posts, who knew grass cutting could be controversial)
