I planted one in this area and I wasn’t sure if it was coming up?

I dont think so - roses dont ‘come up’ they remain in place over winter just needing to be pruned.

It looks like an apple tree seedling to me.

Gemini says its an apple seedling

Oh I wasn’t expecting it to be an apple seedling but now I look at it, it does look like that.

Bit gutted, I took a cutting from my late dad’s garden and as a last ditch attempt had planted it here, thought it’d managed!

thank you all, very helpful

Oh I'm so sorry for your loss.

Do let it grow because it could turn out to be a rose and prove us all wrong.

If it's an apple then you can enjoy it as a lovely surprise gift from your dad.

It looks more like a Dahlia to me, the leaves look not quite right at the edges for an apple, too serrated.

GuelderRoses · 09/05/2026 00:02

It looks a bit like a wild cherry seedling to me.

I’ll keep you all posted as it comes along!
