What size permanent pot does a forest pansy need?

I bought a forest pansy (for a pot) thanks to posters on here.
I now need a new/permanent pot for it.
I am reading conflicting info on the size needed + the pics in garden centres are big trees in quite teeny pots (IMHO).
Any suggestions?

Its a tree so i would go for as big a pot as you can manage. My friends one is 2m tall.

What size pot is it in now and how tall is the tree?

Whatever size pot you go for, buy one that is wider than it is tall, with a broad base, to help prevent it from blowing over in high winds.

It's in a 110L pot. Only bought the tree last year, maybe a metre high?

I've just realised I have a pot that might be suitable, but I reckon it's only 14 inches deep. I have read I need 18 - 24 and this is what I am mostly stuck on - do I ?

However tall the pot is, it needs to be as wide as that as well, for stability. For now, since it is still small, I would go for a pot that is 2 to 3" larger all round than the one it is in at present. It is no good 'overpotting' as all that happens is that the roots go straight down to the bottom and don't grow sideways at all.

The pot I have in the garden that i could use is wider than it is tall. the pot I have the tree in now is FAR too big so I guess I need to do the switching quick smart to stop the roots getting longer
