Pergola advice

Looking for advice on whether it’s possible to put a polycarbonate roof (or something similar) back on this pergola without destroying all the lovely climbing roses please? It did once have it on but has recently been removed (not sure why).
Any advice on how to do it would be great and also how to make it watertight as that’s the walk way to the outside utility!

Difficult without causing any damage, some may have to be trimmed back. Is there a clear, accessible end?
You would have to lift the first panel over that end then, shuffle it along from the underneath to the most inaccessible end to start. Put the ladder under the next section and lean through the gap to secure the fittings and just go along like that.
I have clear corrugated plastic roofing on mine and that’s how we did it, but we didn’t have half as much growing as high as you do at the time we fitted it.
