Is my acer dead?

Its only small, about 18" high, about 3 years old. It's branches dont look dead but I have no leaf buds, is this late for leaves? I see other acers around and their leaves are unfurling yet I have no buds even 😕

I've got about a dozen of them, all different varieties. Some already have leaves, some have fat buds and a couple are still fast asleep. Don't give up hope yet.

Hmm interesting, four of my acers are covered in leaves 🍁 one looks dead. I am pretty sure it is dead which is sad because I have had it 5 years and it was beautiful. It has sat in the same spot for three years but, late summer early autumn, it lost all its leaves way before my other four acers. I thought it had died then. I will keep hoping but I’m sure that it would have some signs of growth by now if it wasn’t.

Some Acers have a slow start so I wouldn't write it off yet. One thing they really hate is wind so they do need a sheltered position.

Yeah we've had some windy days this Spring so far, it's probably that.
