Hi, we have a plum tree that was here when we moved in, all good, all been ok.
This spring however the front section of the tree doesn’t have any new growth at all, what do we do? You can see the back section has a good amount of growth.
We don’t know anything about fruit trees unfortunately.

You can scrape away a little of the bark to check that it is alive. It should be green underneath. Brown shows that branch is dead. Start at the tip of a branch and work your way down to see if a branch is all dead or just odd sections.

Thank you we’ll take a look

After our Victoria plum being absolutely covered in blossom last year (and producing masses of plums) the flower buds this year are much more sparce. I think it's inevitable after a bumper year. Wait until the leaves start coming out, that will give you a better idea of how healthy it is.

Thank you, will wait, we did have a lot of fruit last year

Our plum tree had masses of fruit last year, so much so the branches were bending and we had to pick loads off.

We have one blossom bud his year!

Ours only really gets fruit every second year.

This is all good to hear thank you. Will see how things go and fingers crossed it’s ok. My husband and daughter are really hoping it’s ok as love the plums. I love the plum jam and rum we make with them 😄

How do you make the rum? We made plum gin last year (as well as every other thing I could think of!), is it just like that or more complex?
