I have received this rose plant as a gift. I dont know lots about roses but wondered if this is what I should have received as it doesn't seem a lot for the money I know was paid. I do appreciate it but wanted to check the gift giver hasn't been overcharged. TIA

Yes that's normal for this time of year. Roses die back in winter it's just dormant. Plant it out and you'll have a reasonable sized shrub and probably some blooms this year and an even better display next summer.

It looks like a David Austin rose. What type is it?

YellowFruitBowl · 14/03/2026 21:33

Yes, normal for now. What rose is it?

TemporarilyCantDoMyself · 14/03/2026 21:33

That's a very typical garden rose and I'd expect it to cost anything between about £13- £30, depending on the variety and where from - bog standard rose from high street, garden centre, all the way through to special variety from specialist nursery like David Austin Roses.
Is there a label with info @BeenThereDoneThat21 ?

Well … This is what you’d get from David Austin if you ordered a potted rose:

And these are the prices of

Presumably the person sending your gift intended you to receive a potted shrub? It’s not tall enough for a tree rose, which would be much more expensive.

So how much did they pay?

BeenThereDoneThat21 · 15/03/2026 00:46

Thanks for your replies. It's a Floribunda rose and cost about £25. I haven't had a rose plant before so wasn't sure what to expect. I'm planning on putting it into a pot on the patio.

Florinunda is the type or group. There are literally hundreds of different varieties of floribunda rose. Does it say which? Some grow much larger than others. How lovely!

£25 is a completely normal price for a potted rose. Stop worrying - no one was robbed!

Enjoy your rose. (Follow all instructions. Take lots of photos to show the person who gave you such a lovely thing.)

BeenThereDoneThat21 · 15/03/2026 07:46

I am happy with it!
