I'm currently attacking a very overgrown section of garden, think tough old shrubs, roots, rocks, it's pretty hellish! Please can you recommend the best tools you've come across? I'm tempted by the mini chainsaws I keep seeing.. or the golden spade that niwaki do!

Would love some recommendations!

A mattock. Brilliant for chopping up old roots and digging stuff up. I bought one on advice from this board when clearing a similar area in my garden.

Fiskars loppers and pruners. A bit spendy but seem to go through stuff twice as thick as other similar tools.

Also a decent hand axe. I’ve found this a really good way to de root areas of previously covered ground. Drive the axe into the ground to split the roots into smaller more manageable pieces before trying to dig them out. For me it made the process of clearing the soil of roots much easier.

Second the mattock. Invaluable. You can buy big ones which are ideal for getting out roots but also a little hand one that you can use for picking away at smaller stuff.

If you are working with someone else both having a fork to lever roots up together is a boon.

Rootslayer spade

I love my roughneck serrated edge spade. Not too expensive. We have a mini chainsaw from Lidl which has been amazing! Might invest in a mattock now! Although the worst of my garden is done for the moment!
