How to stop the blisters when gardening?

Last year I started planting one of our bigger borders, I wore decent gloves but I took the skin off a portion of my palm.

Can anyone recommend a pair of gloves that won’t rub that I can handle roses with etc, great if they’re also waterproof.

People usually get blisters because the gloves don't fit correctly. Problem is that many work gloves are by default too large for women. You could wear a liner glove inside your larger pair. Measure your hand size and buy the right ones.

I like palm dipped but you might prefer dotted. Ejendals gloves start from size 3 or 4, this website sells them from size 6.

I also have a pair of thin leather Briers which are a great all rounder but not heavy duty enough for roses.

Accurately sized PPE is a feminist issue! I used to work at a nature reserve and had to push hard for getting the right sizes for women volunteers & staff. Ejendals is a Swedish brand, if you go to a Nordic DIY shop there are more things in women's sizes.

I agree. The more snug-fitting the better. Loose gloves are going to chafe. I've had success with ones called Thornmaster.

I mostly use latex-free surgical gloves when gardening, and have stopped getting blisters. If I’m doing really physical stuff I will pop gardening gloves on top, but most of the time they are fine on their own.
