Can anyone id this tree?

I think it's a cherry but not sure. Would like to know if it is a plum as won't plant another one if so. Thanks!

Google image search agrees with you that it's a cherry tree but maybe an actual gardener will know better

Some sort of prunus or other, but too soon in the year to tell whether it is a cherry or a plum. It will be easier once leaves are out, and it may well flower too, so perhaps come back and post another photo in a few weeks.

Cherries and prunes are both in the Prunus genus (Prunus avium/cerasus, Prunus domestica) which makes identification harder. Cherry generally has a stripy trunk but it depends on age. Could you add a photo of the trunk/older wood?
