Any recommendations please for plants / shrubs to grow on a fence to soften up the appearance a bit. The problem is the fence is in the shade most of the day Thanks

There's a page on the RHS website called 'climbers and wall shrubs for shade', maybe look at their suggestions?

The only climber I have in shade is ivy.

Thanks I will look at that.

There are various potato vines/solanum that are vigourous climbers and have pretty flowers a lot of the year and berries towards the autumn. A couple of varieties are evergreen - we had a varigated one with while flowers and lovely purple berries that did fine on a pretty shady fence. I wish I knew what it was called because I want to replace it.

Climbing hydrangea does very well in shade. I have a honeysuckle that does well with only a few hours. Jasminum × stephanense does alright too but gets a little more. You get a nice scent too with the last two.
