Help with watering system

Hi, I’m hoping to buy a watering system as a Christmas present for a keen gardener but I have no idea about these things. Ideally I’d like to get a smart one that is compatible with Alexa.
im starting literally from scratch so no idea how it works, would a smart hub come with all the pipes/tubes etc or do you buy them separately? Any brands to look for/avoid?
grateful for any suggestions!

We have one, I wouldn’t be without it. However, we spent about of time and effort in the design before we got to buying the components. Bin not sure how you would do that for someone else. Who do you expect to design and implement it?alternatively, you can pay people to du a turnkey solution. Is that what you mean?

I was hoping to buy a hose/pipe system that comes with a smart hub, the section of the garden that needs regular watering is a border which is in a straight line directly opposite the water tap so I was assuming there wouldn’t be much design needed but that may be my ignorance speaking?

If that is all you need, a leaky hose type system, coupled with a smart timer, would be perfect.

I’ve got three irrigation systems in my (very small) garden. The most complicated ones are for pots - borders are a lot simpler. I’ve found that buying individual components (I use Amazon) is much better value for money than buying “ready made” sets, which never fit quite right. I made a post about the components last spring, I will dig it up for you.

Also - what a lovely Christmas present idea. As a gardener, this would have been a perfect gift for me.
