planting line/spacer/string thingy

perhaps I have dreamed this thing?
a string with beads placed at intervals to mark where to plant things
probably different coloured beads for different intervals (maybe 15, 20, 30cm)
does it exist?
Have you bought one? made one?

it sounds a simple idea but experience tells me simple ideas can be harder to execute than you think, so I don't want to reinvent and early wheel prototype!

I put two sticks in the ground, tie some twine, to allow me a straight line and plant using the hori hori or a trowel to space in between. So the length of the tool is the spacer.
Never seen beads or spacers.

You definitely haven't imagined the string. But I also have never come across the bead bit.

yes this is what I currently do but often cant find the hori hori or the stick with measurements on it (there are ay least 3 locations where I might have left it)

so I'm after a single all in one solution (which will still probably be in the wrong place!)

My dad just used red ink to mark the string at appropriate intervals.
