Cannas would work. You will need large pots (minimum 40cm diameter, ideally more), and do not plant anything else in them - they need lots of space. Mine are still going strong now. Start them indoors in Feb/March, then move to large pots outside when warm enough. The foliage is gorgeous, guests always ask me about them, the flowers are just the cherry on top.

Sweetpeas on teepees would work too, for spring scent and colour.

Salvia amistad can also grow very tall, I haven’t tried them in pots though.

You could also have some annual climbers like ipomoea (morning glory), they are super easy to grow from seed and flower from May onwards (still flowering now in my garden). They are happy in pots.

Is it sunny or shaded? There are lots of trees that grow well in large pots. And are you looking for froth and colour in the summer or year round privacy? Get the largest pots you can whatever you decide.
