Rhododendron in flower

We have lived here for almost 20 years and this has never happened before. It's a spring flowering rhododendron. But I've just been for a wander around the garden and it's in bloom! Very welcome since generally that part of the garden looks a bit boring at this time of year.

Oh how lovely. I've got a climbing rose that had to have a severe haircut early this year as its support frame collapsed. It has decided that now is the time to produce flower buds.

Rhododendrons do sometimes get confused!

I saw one in bloom at Kew Gardens on Wednesday and wondered if there are autumn blooming varieties or if it was just out of sync.
