Doing a garden clear up and trying to figure out what this is?
Thought I had planted oriental poppy in this pot 😅

It looks like you have to me! That’s what oriental poppy leaves look like

dairydebris · 12/10/2025 17:15

Get it in the ground! It'll be beautiful come spring.

Myfridgeiscool · 12/10/2025 17:16

Definitely a poppy leaf

goingtotown · 12/10/2025 17:48

Oriental Poppy.

ItstheHRTpat · 12/10/2025 17:51

Ohh you lucky thing!

Maggiethecat · 12/10/2025 20:37

Was about to chuck it 😂

Someone gave me a couple of small plants early summer but told me it’s very invasive hence wanting to keep them in pots.
The flowers are beautiful but I really don’t want them taking over. Will they be ok in pots?

I don't know where they got their information from but I've never heard of oriental poppies being invasive. They do not spread underground and I don't believe they self-seed freely either. None of mine or ones I've known ever have. I put one in my front garden seven years ago and I still have just one.

You could try growing them in pots but there's no reason not to plant them in the ground if you want to.

Not invasive at all in our garden. I must admit I'd not a fan though, too big and clunky for my liking. DH loves them though.

TablePourTrois · 12/10/2025 21:58

Send the photo to Gemini app. It LL tell you lots about this plant.

Maggiethecat · 12/10/2025 22:03

Oh, maybe I misheard. It’s a beautiful white poppy and am
looking forward to it in my garden.

It’s an Oriental Poppy 🙂

Christwosheds · 12/10/2025 22:17

They aren’t invasive. The clump gets larger over time but they are not going to take over your garden.

Namechangeforthis88 · 12/10/2025 22:19

Native poppies spread pretty well to be fair, not oriental though. Maybe someone got their wires crossed.

Pinkywoo · 25/10/2025 13:32

It's opium poppies that spread everywhere, my front garden is full of them! They have very different leaves though, yours is definitely an oriental.
