Nematodes and slugs

Every slug in the country seems to have made its way to my vegetable garden and they're having a great time munching through everything. I've put down pellets in the short term, but have read nematodes may be the answer. Has anyone used this method and does it get rid of them?

yes I have, and ime they make a huge difference but they take a few days to work, and the effect wears off after about 6-8 weeks. Great to use when you have lots of vulnerable seedlings.

I agree, they do work, but just not for long enough in my opinion. What I did last year, was did my veg patch with nematode, then towards the end of the 5-6 week period started doing nightly rounds with a torch, some salt or the boot, lol!

Thanks for that. Can you get them at garden centres or where's the best place. Also how much usually please?

My mum uses nematodes, and gets them from Green Gardener. They can do you a regular supply during the summer.

She swears by the Encarsia for whitefly too - not one to be seen in her greenhouses.

i get them from green gardener and they do definitely reduce slugs tho not totally eradicate. seem to cut down snails a bit too tho they're not aimed at snails

i have started a rigid programme of removal. so far all i can say is that there are less of them, we will see whether i can manage to rear any beans since i haven't in the past 6 years...
