Please help me plan my pots!

So we have a cottage style walled garden and I have three large pots on the patio but I struggle each year to know what to put in them. I tend to do tulips then switch to a Sarah Raven summer mix. One year I did mini lime hydrangea which was nice. It seems expensive though. What do others do? I’d like to plan in advance this year. 🙏 Thanks!

What happened to the hydrangea? Hydrangeas don’t die after a year so if you’re throwing away plants and shrubs 2-3 times a year, then yes, it will be expensive.

@PlanetSaturn I planted them in the garden when I did the bulbs and then forgot about them! I’ll put them back in the pots next year

One year I scattered wildflower seeds in one large pot this time of year. It was a beautiful early summer display. But I usually just do a massive pot of tulips.

I do a bulb lasagna for spring. Then, when that's finished I put lavender or roses in the pots surrounded by alchemilla mollis, erigeron or nasturtiums. In autumn I move the plants on into the garden and save the nasturtium seeds for the following year.

I also have a couple of pots with little fir trees, cyclamen, ivy, snowdrops and tete a tete that I move into place for the winter.
