Years ago, in a previous house, I used a sort of white felt to cover the ground to deter weeds. Can't seem to find this now. Any suggestions for a weed suppressant that isn't the horrible black bin bag type membrane?

Cardboard, sheep’s wool, Strulch, bark chippings.

If you want a roll like the plastic membranes, rather than loose mulch, there are hemp/jute ones like this www.amazon.co.uk/Windhager-Naturfaser-Unkrautmatte-07507-Natural-Control/dp/B08V1X1SS8/ref=mp_s_a_1_12?

I used this type of thing when I had an allotment, but can't remember the specific brand. It lasted 2 to 3 years on outside paths, and considerably longer in the greenhouse where it stayed relatively dry.

For.single-year use for planting theough I used paper rolls. More durable than you'd think, but they don't do a second year.
