I have been wondering where I planted the damn eryngium! 😂
Bought a bare root early summer and thought I planted it in a sunny spot rather than this shaded area.
Am glad I checked before chucking it out as a weed.
Thank you!

Treat yourself to some plant label sticks, they make it much easier!

I tend to label things but inevitably the writing disappears! Have not worked out foolproof labelling 😞

Have you tried the water proof pens? Now I’ve said that, you watch when winter makes a fool of me!

Maggiethecat · 29/08/2025 16:32

I’ve used permanent markers - not sure if that’s the same thing….

So I bought ‘Gardening Essentials’ Plant Labels from Amazon. There are 100 white plastic plant sticks that come with two waterproof permanent marker pens. I only got them this spring so I will see how they do.

That’s mine!

Even permanent markers bloody aren't

Pencil is the best bet

There are several different species within the genus, all with very different leaves

Sometimes the pencil lasts, sometimes not!
I’ve even tried the expensive Posca pens with mixed results.

I doubt a pencil would work on these plastic sticks though. Do you use a particular pencil? What do you use for labels?

Cheap plastic ones and a softer pencil.

I do attempt to get perm marker to stay but last year's dahlia labelling was a fail, put it that way

I got around this a couple of years ago by drawing up a garden plan, might be the way to go again.

I wish I had one and could do it but unfortunately, right now, just diagnosed ADHD means it's not on the cards. My excellent plant ID and memory though......

SleepingisanArt · 30/08/2025 18:01

Warning! If it is an eyrngiums it can spread and be a nightmare to clear from the areas where you don't want it! Mine have leaves like yours and they now have sharp little spikes on them which was not fun when I was digging out the plants I didn't want!

I’d actually love to do one for you, I enjoyed doing mine. Everything gets included! Quite a work of art, lol.

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I’ll remember you for plant ID though!

Not to be apologised for, explains a great many things, just need a bit of time to adjust

In some gardens yes, some no. Same can be said of many plants

Of course, things will fit in to place now.

Really hope so as I've always wondered 'why am I like this?' and 'why can I not just.....?' etc

It's not going to fix anything overnight but at least gives me a framework to understand how to cope better
