Window box plants for autumn, winter and beyond

I’m putting my flat on the market in a few weeks and wanted to plant up my window boxes to make my balcony look more appealing for the photos and viewings. Please can anyone suggest some plants that will look good through autumn and winter (and ideally into spring!) without my having to keep refreshing the window boxes? I’d be very grateful for any suggestions, especially for inexpensive plants as I need to keep costs down. I am in London so we don’t have too many frosts.

Pansies/violas would be the obvious choice. You could put a bit of variegated ivy trailing in there too, and some bulbs for the spring.

Yes, Pansies and Violas definitely, and maybe some miniature Cyclamen, which will do well in London.

How about a mix of tiny little fir trees, ivy, cyclamen and some tete a tete daffodil bulbs to come up early in the new year? You could probably buy all of that very cheaply in any supermarket (Morrisons near me have all these plants/bulbs in right now).

Thank you all so much - these are brilliant ideas. I’m off to the shops tomorrow! Many thanks
