Something's wrong with my cotoneaster

It seems to be dying in parts? It was planted by my long dead DGM so I want to try to save it. I've read that it could be mites or disease, and I think I'm going to cut the affected bits off.

I hope it survives Sad

Mine looked like that earlier this year. I kept forgetting to cut the affected bits off and a month or so later, it was back to normal as if nothing had happened. Very wierd.

@Riddo that’s reassuring thank you!

I forgot to say, the same happened to another part of it about 6 months ago, which I removed.

It could have canker, so look closely lower down on the branches affected to see if they look diseased. Another possible cause is fireblight. I'd cut anything obviously diseased off, and spray with a rose fungicide/insecticide. Cotoneasters are part of the wider rose family.

If there are any very healthy areas, then they take really easily from cuttings.
