Pruning wisteria - now or in August?

I could prune my wisteria now, as in today/tomorrow, if I force my teenager to do it :) or around 20 August. I’d prefer the latter (more time to do it then) but will it grow completely huge if I don’t trim it now? Or the other way around, if I do, will it get huge again by the end of summer and will require another trim, before the winter one? It’s so dry and hot, it just grows like crazy. What would you do?

So I pruned mine a couple of weeks ago to encourage a second bloom. I did the cut to 4/5 buds and also cut off the seed pods. I know that I will need to do again in September as it grows so quickly but feels like a smaller task if I do it bit by bit plus I want to see if this second bloom works!

Oh, good to know @yumscrummy! I finally trimmed mine yesterday, just the shoots that were overhanging from the pergola and reaching the ground. I hope they won’t grow back in a week… No time to do proper pruning like you did, I realised yesterday that it would take a whole day and I’m travelling. It’s a massive plant and I don’t even know how I will make sure all the shoots are trimmed to the right length.

I hope you will get a second flush of flowers!
