Instead of a hanging basket. What?

The number of baskets we have killed over the years is ridiculous.
We have full sun from morning to the evening.
Has anyone got any ideas of what to hang.
It looks bare with out anything.

What's the setup? Is the area near a wall you could put a wooden trellis on and grow a climber? Or is it specifically something to hang and you want ideas for a non living hanging decoration?

Is this on the front of your house? What effect would you like?

I assume the issue is insufficient watering, if the spot gets full sun from morning till evening. Anything you put there instead will require watering in dry weather, obviously, but are you able to plant a climbing plant into the ground and train it around a door or window or whatever? Once established it would need less watering than a hanging basket.

More expert people on here will have some ideas for climbers that might work.

A non living thing would be best.
We don't actually use the front door. Side door is best for us to use.

Unfortunately we don't have green fingers.
More than likely to kill a plant just by looking at it.
We water every day in the evening or very early morning.
We do have a water butt thankfully

So is this for the wall next to your front door? Maybe a lamp or lantern?

DCorMe · 09/07/2025 12:00

Does it have to hang or could you put some garden wall ornament on instead? The other way to use the wall would be wall mounted planters with greenery such as rockery plants that are hardy, but won’t flower

We've got solar lanterns on our hanging basket brackets, much easier to care for!

@ImFineItsAllFine they look lovely.
Might try to find something like those but as big as a hanging basket.

Thank you. A shopping trip to a big garden centre is called for.

Anything except a big plastic buxus ball or obviously fake flowers left up in winter

Vodkaandlemonade · 09/07/2025 12:17

@CoastalCalm even we would not go down that path.
But then again we might kill that.😂😂

Quite honestly, I love plants and have lots of them - but I cannot keep a hanging basket alive. I have a couple of those plastic topiary ball things in strategic places. Good quality looks ok. Go to a garden centre and have a look!
