New to me garden but it’s quite mature. Inherited several gorgeous wisterias which have got a bit wild in recent years. They need cutting right back in places and training in other places so they go where j want them.
I know you’re supposed to do a light prune now, then a bigger prune in the winter months. What would happen if I do the big prune now instead? It’s so overgrown in places that it’s reducing light getting to the beds underneath.

If you give it a big prune now whilst it is growing it will put in a huge growth spurt and grow like mad.
