Stinky top soil

Just that really! Decided to create a raised bed for growing vegetables, DH popped to Wickes to get a few bags of top soil. It smelt when we opened the bags but thought it would ease. Two weeks later and it still smells, a mix of manure and a bit chemically (like petroleum). My veg aren’t growing particularly well, other than the tomatoes. Bit concerned about the pong as we’d obvs planned to eat what we are growing. I have added some compost to break it up.

has anyone had similar? Any tips or advice?

We had this! It eventually went but took a while, a few weeks from memory.

It really does pong, I’m just concerned that it’s ok to eat the veg that’s growing in it?
