Stupid question about plant food

I bought my first hanging basket a few days ago, and also put some geraniums in a couple of containers.

The hanging basket said about feeding them regularly, so I bought some miracle gro plant food, the kind that you dilute in water.

How do people administer this? Do you tend to mix some up in a designated watering can and leave it in there?

Or just mix it fresh each time (then I find I have a bit too much)

I mix it in the watering can each time. I am no expert gardener though. Its just easier that way for me so I do it.

You put one scoop in a big can of water and mix it round with a stick. Then pour all of it in the basket. You can do that once every two weeks with all your potted plants. Small ones obviously don't need a whole can.

I just mix up less, but I do it fresh every time.

(Not a problem I have though with my ridiculous collection of outdoor plants)

Don't be tempted to overdose thinking that more is better. It's not. It is like human medication - too much can be seriously harmful.

I make it fresh in a full watering can 1x a week. Then I go round my planters, hanging baskets and pots, rinse and repeat until all are fed. Any extra feeding fluid, I just use on bedding plants.

I wouldn’t do a full 10L watering can on a normal sized hanging basket. To me that would be overwatering and most of it would come out the bottom and feed super weeds below the hanging basket? The poster must have mean a little 2L watering can?

I also water about every other day when it is dry with straight water. The weekly feed is instead of a water.

I use the miracle gro hose attachment feeder. Fill it with a full sachet of powder, top up with a bit of water, clip it on the hose. If there is any left when I’m done watering (which is only ever a problem in my small front garden), I leave it in the hose feeder bottle until next time.

The hose feeder saves a lot of time, as you don’t have to fill a watering can 20 times.

You can also use the hose attachment to feed with other products, like liquid seaweed or Tomorite. Works perfectly fine.
