Can anyone help me identify this tree

Hi,
My neighbours have a random tree growing up through their camellia and I don't think they have noticed as they don't really use their garden. It's towering above the fence, must be 8-9ft by now and it's grown a lot since I first spotted it a couple of weeks ago. Google lens tells me it's a tree of heaven but I don't know if I can trust it - can anyone help?
Thanks!

Looks like an ash seedling to me. It'll be difficult to get rid of at that size.

Looks like Elder to me

Don’t know about the tree, but the camellia didn’t look too good. Needs some iron feed.

Happyher · 15/05/2025 19:37

Self set elder. You need to remove it as it’s too close to the building and if it’s allowed to grow will affect your insurance

EleanorReally · 15/05/2025 19:37

looks like a weedy elder
i have that

EleanorReally · 15/05/2025 19:38

i keep cutting mine but it grows very fast

WhatMe123 · 15/05/2025 19:39

Ash I'd get rid asap if I were you as it'll grow and grow and grow too close to the house too 😬

WhatMe123 · 15/05/2025 19:41

It's come from one of those helicopter tree seeds you see. Honestly if you live near an ash tree you have to pull them out as soon as you see them as they'll grow anywhere if you have one you probably have others growing too seeded from a near by tree op

Foreverexhausted1 · 15/05/2025 19:46

We do have one of those helicopter trees nearby. I'll ask my neighbours to remove it as it's not in my garden, I was concerned about how close it is to the houses

Yeah I would as it'll quickly grow and restrict light too I'd say those trees are a nightmare we have one outside in the street and in constantly removing tiny seedlings before they can grow 🫣

ShodAndShadySenators · 15/05/2025 21:40

Ash are a nightmare for that. (see also Sycamore). It needs taking out PDQ because it'll only get harder to get rid of, the longer they leave it.

(And YY to the camellia needing a feed, they're ericaceous so will need extra trace elements. I know it's not yours though!)

Definitely an ash sapling. They grow into huge trees, so it needs to come out.

PP are right about the camellia as well, it looks like a magnesium deficiency to me.
