I am lucky enough to have a garden but as a single full-time working mother (and in all honesty less inclined to manual labour!) I am not much of a gardener. I had to slightly abandon it during my maternity leave as I had to prioritise cash and money. I’ve just had it properly cleared and have planted a few new plants and I’m just trying to get to a point where it largely takes care of itself, with me occasionally turning the hose on in the summer and having a gardener round from time to time.
The question I’d love some of your expert advice on is how often should I have someone round? I’m trying to avoid no-mow May and nesting season in the hedge etc. Could I get away with a big clear out (which costs £450 for the day!) in very early Spring, so about February/March? And then just someone to come and cut the grass a couple of times over the summer? Or would a full clear out and tidy up need to be twice a year - when are the crucial months?
It’s a medium size patch of grass, which tbh is mostly anything but grass! Which isn’t ideal for the baby crawling on comfortably but is good for biodiversity. One long flower bed up the length of the garden and one smaller bed at the back. Plus some paving at the house end as a patio which does need weeding if left alone too long. I’d just like it to be a space my nearly toddler can actually use plus somewhere I can sit without feeling awfully guilty and enjoy looking at a few flowers.
Thanks so much for any help!
