We bought the house many years ago with this shrub, now about 10 ft high, and have never stopped to find out what it is!

Thanks for your suggestions.

Pretty sure that’s Weigela.

It is a Weigela. We have one.

Never heard of that shrub.

Thank you!

It's weigela. You can prune to make it a more manageable size and flower better. Straight after it's finished flowering, so this summer, cut back the flowered shoots to a leaf bud further down the stems. Also cut out right at the base one in 4 or 5 older branches, that will encourage fresh new shoots which will flower next year. Prune like this every year and it will be covered in flowers.

I’m reading these words like a foreign language!

But I will have a go at figuring it out and try to prune this summer

Thank you!
