Will these survive?

I just recieved my delivery from gardening express. Word of caution to not buy from there. The box came all ripped with half the plants broken and many rotten. Will this wall flower plant survive? Its all yellow inside and some of the twigs are half snapped

I have not bought from Gardening Express but I do buy from a couple of online garden centres. I have had a delivery with some damaged plants and I emailed them with some photos to complain. Very quick response, they resent the order and told me to keep the damaged plants - not all were damaged so I gained a number of extra plants!

Have you been in touch with the supplier?

It’s probably down to the delivery company they used, it looks as if the box was dropped or ripped while in the van. So I would expect replacements.

However, the wall flowers look as if they will recover but you are unlikely to get as many flowers as you will have to remove any damaged stems and leaves. It’s very disappointing but I have to take the risk of ordering online as I cannot walk around a garden centre.

My problem is reading the description carefully before ordering, I’ve ended up with tiny plants when I did not notice that they were plug plants or in 9cm pots! If I want instant appeal, I now go for 3 litre pots but obviously pay a lot more. I’ve just ordered for the first time from B&Q, the plants will come direct from the nursery, Morgan and Thompson so I’m waiting with anticipation to see how they look! It’s my own fault that I need to replace some plants in my patio pots as I forgot to water them in this warm weather.

I’ve used Gardening Express a lot and they have been great.

Just get in touch with them with pictures if the box and they will address it.

Thanks alot
I really don't think this wall flower will survive. The stems are all broken off and I paid £11.99 for a three litre pot.

I have emailed them now but I'm guessing I won't recieve a reply till Monday. I really do hope they atleast replace the damaged plants. From the two wall flowers I ordered the other one doesn't look too bad so I have popped it in a bigger pot to see how it survives.

TBH I don’t see much wrong with it from that picture. It will almost certainly survive.

The price seems very high though!

There's no way I would accept a delivery of living plant material when the box is in a state like that. They need to send you replacements free of charge.

Allseeingallknowing · 10/05/2025 16:24

Email photo along with your concerns to the firm . They are usually good and should replace them.

Rosemaryandlavender1 · 10/05/2025 16:39

I have done so, some of the others have taken a good battering but with some love and care might survive. But two of them look terrible with most of the stems broken so I have asked for a refund for those two with all images sent. I'm hoping they will - if not it will be a lesson learnt not to order from them again.

Just to warn you that my experience of GE customer service has been abysmal. They’ve sent me wrong plants (ans in, I wanted 3 of one thing, they sent me two plus one random other plant) and diseased plants. They never replied to my complaints. No refund. I tried posting an online review but they didn’t let me.

I’ve taken my business elsewhere.

I hope your experience is better than mine.

Wall flowers are hardy things so it will likely survive but you should have complained you wouldn't have bought it in person like that

Rosemaryandlavender1 · 10/05/2025 19:23

The plant has five main stems which have all half snapped off from the base. It looks like a starfish 🤣. So I really don't think it will survive.

The one that survived looks lovely now that i have potted it up, which is such a shame as I would have liked two of them. My DH commented it almost looks like a fake plant as he hasn't seen one like it before.
