Compost safe for toddler

At the risk of sounding really OTT, is there a compost which is safe for my toddler to play in?

I was planning on doing some gardening with my son as I think he’d really enjoy helping me plant a herb garden etc. but my mum said I can’t as he’s not allowed to touch compost? Is this correct and if so is there a way he could help me?

thanks!

If toddlers aren't allowed to touch compost, they need to tell that to my son's nursery!

Compost is absolutely fine, ignore your mum

That's not a thing.

Even if you do find toddler safe compost its not going to stop said toddler licking stray snails or throwing it anywhere it's not supposed to be.

If she mentions it again ask her to show you where she got the info from.
