Is this a rose growing in my hedge

Has anyone else found this before? I thought they needed their space and don't like being crowded. It's incredibly thorny and growing at the top of my hedge and I can see some buds too. Is it a rose?

Here is a close up - fwiw I have never planted it so I have no idea where it has come from.

Yes, definitely a rose.
I've got similar - it's a rambler that has been swamped by the hedge. Still flowers each year.

I see, thank you. I think normally it gets cut down each year when the hedges get trimmed so I haven't noticed it before. Anyway to identify what type of rambler it is? It it is incredibly thorny!

It is probably Rosa Rugosa.

Best bet is to wait till it flowers & see if you can identify it then.

Wait till it flowers and then see what they look like. That will help with id.

I will do, I'm hoping it is a shade of pink to add some much needed colour to my garden. I didn't even know such roses existed that grew in hedges.
