Shrub ID help

Can anyone help me ID this shrub? It seems to have defeated all the AI recognition apps.

It has gone completely bananas this year and is massive, but eventually needs a bit of cutting back (not now - planning ahead).

Looks like photinia red robin

Trueloveneverdies · 06/05/2025 16:40

Agree - red robin! Looks happy.

Thank you both so much! I am a very inexperienced gardener and if I know anything it’s more about flowers, but the previous owners of the house were clearly big fans of shrubs so I’m trying to learn all the different types we have.

Agree - the red robins round here have all gone bananas this year - they obviously like the weather....

Agreed. Our council has planted one on the street where an old tree was removed. It's nuts, way too bushy. I had to park next to it and could barely get out of the car - I got absolutely covered in bits.

When the flowers come out they absolutely stink!

BeNiceWhenItsFinished · 06/05/2025 22:41

They seem to be everywhere this year - I have no idea why they are so popular.

Countrydiary · 07/05/2025 07:19

It’s always been very unobtrusive until this year and suddenly it’s just huge!

They don’t mind a hard prune or in other words you can cut it back ad much as you like and it will grow back happily. I’ve done that myself several times to the same plant.
