Sweet Peas

I wanted to grow sweet peas. I don't want to do a pyramid. I was thinking I could grow them in a grow bag against the wall with canes and string to grow up.

I bought these. There are about 4/5 to a pot. There are 6 pots. I have 40 litre grow bags.

I'd like some advice to go about this. Should I separate and re pot them or put them straight in the grow bag? One grow bag or two?

It's not letting me show the pictures of the sweet peas or the place I want to grow them. I'll upload them as soon as I can.

According to Monty Don, three plants to a cane is about right.

It’s my first year sowing them; hopefully someone with actual knowledge will pop in to advise ☺️

They have deep roots so maybe better in a pot than a grow bag which might be too shallow. Can you put the soil from the grow bag into a pot? Probably 2 large pots for that many plants. I use canes and a pea ring which holds the canes in a circle, avoids it getting congested at the top. They are hungry and thirsty plants so regular watering and feeding required in a pot. Good luck

They dont like being separated, if you already have seedlings.

Unless the sweetpeas are the dwarf variety, I think a grow bag won't be deep enough for their long root system. I grow mine in very large pots with bamboo canes and twine for support.

Turn the grow bag on its side so you are planting in the short end (like you would open the inner bag in a cereal box). I know they don't like being separated if grown together in a pot but mine have always been fine when I do. Just be gentle.

I would suggest you "pinch" some of those out - especially the "leggy" ones. I would also suggest your wall is not high enough. Can you grow them up the fence panels in the background?
