Some sort of beetle maybe

ThisPithyJoker · 30/04/2025 08:26

Google lens says some kind of chafer. Probably a European chafer

I've only ever seen a very shiny bottle green/oil effect version of this. Is this one a sort of rose gold? Beautiful!

dudsville · 30/04/2025 08:29

Or are those wings neatly tucked in on its back?

YoureMyWifeNowDave · 30/04/2025 08:30

It’s a cockchafer aka may bug

neverknowinglyunreasonable · 30/04/2025 08:31

Didn't we do this yesterday? I think it's exactly the same little guy.

TwistedKeys · 30/04/2025 09:03

Thank you! Blimey. They’re like tiny tanks with wings.

It’s always tricky from a single photo, especially when lighting and angle hide key details like leg count or wing shape. When I’m unsure, I zoom in on antennae length and body segments first. If you’re still stuck, I’ve had good luck using an insect search by image tool insect search by image where you upload a clear photo and add your location. It narrows things down quickly and helps you figure out if it’s harmless or something to monitor.

It’s a Common Cockchafer or May Beetle.

The green version is what we call a Shield Bug in our family but now wondering if we made that up! 😃
