Will cardboard last long enough for plug plants?

I'm putting in a new bed and have (probably over ordered) lots of plug plant to fill it. They'll need growing in pots for 6-8 weeks before planting out, and I'd rather avoid buying lots of pot, which will only be used once.

I've raided the recycling and have some tubs and bottle bottoms I can put holes in and use, but probably not enough. Will cardboard packets like half a cereal box stay in touch long enough to use?

I would have thought so, but they will be a bit big and cumbersome.
Do you have access to newspaper and know the make-your-own pots hack?

I am keeping all the cardboard loo roll tubes which I reckon will do the job just fine.

if they are tiny plug plants you can put them in egg boxes (plus extra compost)
