Privacy tree with small roots?

I’d love to plant a tree at the bottom of our (fairly big) garden. The garden is currently plain. Just grass. Not a peep of a flower, bush or tree ☹️

It’s also very overlooked.
Is there such thing as a privacy tree with small roots? The neighbours house is fairly close to the end of our garden so I’m worried that roots could cause an issue for them in a few years. Which I obviously don’t want.

Any help would be appreciated. I am not a gardener.

You want a low water demand tree that doesn't get too tall. This list may give some ideas. images.app.goo.gl/vSTyDLWfTc5CVmXF9

You will get greater privacy if you plant the tree slightly nearer your house. It is all a matter of perspective.

A large shrub might work? 2-3 metres
