Anyone else excited for peonies?

I bought a couple of bare root peonies about three years ago. Nothing at all beyond a sad little 3 inch stalk for the past 2 years. They are in a spot which gets morning sun but is semi shaded in the afternoon. I was planning to dig them out if nothing happened this spring.
This year wow! They’re about 30cm tall and I can see flower buds. I’m assuming it’s all the sun we’ve had. No one shares my gardening excitement in real life so I thought I’d share it with the green fingered mumsnetters instead! 😂🌺

I love them too, and am excited for you! One of my peonies has already finished flowering, it is always over so quickly. I really wish the flowers lasted longer.

I have some in pots that ended last year looking decidedly dead but they're now green and cheery and full of life. I love peonies, they're such divas!

Very excited. Big one was here when he moved in 22 years ago, the smaller one I put in 3-4 years ago.

Mine has gone mad this year after 5 years of 2-3 flowers. I now have 9 about to bloom.

Yes they should be good (herbaceous ones) I removed two large tree peonies last winter as they have such a fleeting flowering season and do nothing else all year.

Mine was one that my Nan dug up from her garden and gave me about 15 years ago. It’s survived a house move since then as well. Always makes me smile and think of my lovely Nan who’s no longer with us

I ordered some new peonies from these guys earlier this month 👆. There were really knowledgeable and helpful and had lots of varieties i’d never seen before. I recommend them.

I love these pictures! Thanks for sharing! 😍
@Booksandwine80I’ve heard that peonies don’t always respond well to being moved (had contemplated moving mine when they didn’t grow!)
So lovely that yours have bloomed in memory of your gran

Mine seem to get bigger and better every year 😍

I love peonies. My mum has the most amazing patch of them. I’ve planted some in pots and fingers crossed they might flower this year. I’ve finally discovered gardening at 48 years old. Up until last year I never understood my mums obsession with her garden. I do now.

EffinMagicFairy · 27/04/2025 22:05

Yes, both mine are recovering after I cut them back mid summer a couple of years ago, last year I had a couple of flowers, this year they both have plenty of buds.

StrikeForever · 27/04/2025 22:36

I love my Peonies, so yes I am really looking forward to them. I do have a problem though. My red ones planted about 10 years ago, flower beautifully every year, but the pink ones I have planted in the last few years never flower 😢

Can't wait for my peonies, they've gone bananas in the last fortnight

Can't believe how much further in other people's peonies are on than mine. Mine are just shoots at the moment. I'm in the south too.
