How to deter birds from eating my grass seed

Does anyone have any cheap and quick solutions to deter birds from eating my grass seed? Should I cover the seed after spreading it? It’s for a lot of patches all over my garden.

was looking at small scarecrow type things on Amazon, basically a picture on a stick. Not sure if that would work.. thanks

Grass seed is cheap. Just use three times as much, and let the birds have their fun.

You have to cover it.

Compost on top. Makes the grass much thicker too.

Compost on top.

Go to a charity shop and buy old CDs. Thread string through them and attach the string to posts at either side of the garden. Use lots of posts. They will flash when the sun catches them.

Or avoid the work, buy a few big plastic owls and set them around strategically - on your fence, window sills, in trees or bushes...

DH sometimes pegs a clear plastic sheet over seeded areas until it’s germinated - keeps birds off, keeps warmth and moisture in. It may not be practical for you if you’ve lots of patches but maybe try it on some of them.

Horticultural fleece with allow light and rain to get through & keep the birds off. You can re-use it loads of times.

Thank you all

Cover it up & put plenty of bird seed out for them to eat, away from the patches of grass seed you're sewing
