Cordyline tree

I have a few cordyline trees. I want them to grow as a single trunk for a few meters before they spread out. Google has told me they branch off once they flower. Is it possible to try to control this? It will make a difference as to where I plant them.

I had two cordyline trees they had grown to a good size. I was told to protect them by growing a few together before cutting back to allow a single tree.
loved them however I lost them in a really cold winter.
however the roots regrew so I am leaving a cluster before trying to have one tree.
hopefully this helps. I love these spikey plants and trees

That's exactly how I want them! I didn't realise a cold winter could finish them off, another thing I've learnt. Thank you
