Pinching out Cosmos seedlings

These are the 1 metre white Cosmos - are they ready to pinch out the growing tips yet?
Their growing tips are so tight and bushy so I’m worried about taking off too much…

Thanks for any advice.

I never pinch mine out and they seem to do ok! I will watch your thread with interest. I am crazy about cosmos, they are so beautiful.

I don’t pinch out cosmos.

MoistVonL · 17/04/2025 10:21

I mean, I know you can, once they have three sets of leaves, I just don’t bother.

Choccyp1g · 17/04/2025 10:24

In my experience, once they go outdoors, the slugs will do it for you.

Right down to a stump.

I usually pinch out half and leave half. I would leave those a bit longer before pinching.

They are going in a trough outside my classroom window, so unless the slugs can abseil, we should be ok...

I will pinch out half in a couple of weeks and report back!

How lng did they take to germinate. I have just sow mine directly into the soil

I've never pitched them out and they were amazing last year. They'll soon bush iut once they're put outdoors

In the house, 5 days. In the garden, a couple of weeks at least because it’s a bit cool for them

Thanks. They are in a warm spot so fingers crossed

They are my absolute favourite seeds to germinate on a sunny windowsill - after 3 or 4 days you can almost hear them popping up!
