What to plant here?

I am completely new to gardening.

I have these baskets on my house that have been here since I moved in 8 years ago and I’ve never filled them. The wall is east facing so no sun after 12/1pm in peak summer.

So far I have a bag of all purpose compost and I really want some bright colours. The wall is east facing. I’m going to the garden centre soon, what do I need to line them and what flowers shall I get?

I have looked on Google but it’s overwhelming.

You need coir liners for the hanging basket shaped one. For things like this, choose a thriller a spiller and a filler for each pot, so something striking and beautiful, maybe a perennial that you really like, something trailing which will hang over the edge and something which will grow and fill out all the gaps.

Go for stuff which will cope with dry conditions so Mediterranean things, pelagoniums, lavender, rosemary, some grasses etc.
You will need to check them every day and probably water every day, maybe twice a day in summer.

I would get some nice terracotta pots and put pelagoniums in them for the long planter under the window.

Rather than ‘water twice a day’ you are better to buy plants that meet the conditions. Make some holes in the coir planter about 2 inches up from the bottom and plant trailing ivy and nasturtian. In the top plant trailing rosemary, calendula, and California poppy .
