I’m having bush problems

I’m a total novice and don’t actually know anything about gardening so please can you help me! I also don’t know the names of these bushes so I’m use to you on that front.

the first pic, I’m not sure how to prune this bad boy but it’s getting too big and covering 50% of my path. The issue is that it’s bald inside? If I trim it back, with the leaves regrow?

My second pic is a hedge that looks like it’s got some sort of disease. Any ideas on what this could be and how to fix it?

thank you!

The first pic looks like a hebe to me. Since they need sunlight for leaves to grow, the parts that are constantly in shade/dark won’t have leaves. So cut back to the shape and size you want and it’ll grow back. With the hedge, I’d suggest cutting back the dead stems and giving it some shape and put some fertilizer around the roots and keep an eye on it.

Grin bush problems

for now I would remove enough to free up the path. bear in mind that it's bird nesting time and you must not disturb nesting birds.

in autumn go in and prune it hard. it should sprout new branches and leaves mext year.
