Hello

Can anyone recommend plants for hanging baskets that like full sun? I had ivy in it and it's died, I kept on top of watering it's just like a tropical island when it gets warm, south facing. I kind of want something that won't sulk and give up if It goes a day without a drink, preferably something that comes back everyyear but if not possible then that's ok

Thank you 😊

I put trailing geraniums in mine, ( south facing ) two or three plants make a good display. I also put water retaining granules in the compost.

busy lizzies are good. you need to keep on top of watering all hanging baskets, but the bigger the basket the better so it doesn’t dry out too much. I also like petunias

My neighbour always has amazing hanging baskets whereas I do not. I collared her to get some tips and she said

  • fresh compost each year
  • line the basket
  • use those gel beads that hold water
  • mix the soil with feed
  • 3 plants max, give the roots space
  • water daily but check the soil further in because it can get so dry it repels water then you need to take the whole thing down and soak it

I have high hope this year. Petunias, ivy and lobelia in mine.
